Common Types of Fillings

Composites: Composite fillings are preferred for anterior teeth as it can be made to match the color of your natural teeth. This type of filling can also be used on your molars, however, make sure you check with your insurance to see if they cover this type of fillings. Some insurances downgrade posterior composites to amalgam.

Amalgam: Amalgam fillings are commonly known in dental offices and have been used for many years to fill in cavities. They are usually silver in color due to its metallic elements and can easily be seen. This type of filling are usually ideal for molars and are the least expensive.

Metals: Metal fillings most commonly consist of gold or silver amalgams. Although gold amalgams will cost more than silver, its durability is no questions. They can last around 10-15 years!
